Equipment

Ingredients

For the Lasagna:

  • 9 lasagna noodles for completeness and cycles
  • 1 pound ground beef or plant-based alternative for grounding
  • 1 onion finely chopped (for protection)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (for purification)
  • 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes (for transformation)
  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste (for binding)
  • 1 15-ounce container ricotta cheese (for nurturing)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese for unity and warmth
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese for wisdom
  • 2 eggs for fertility and renewal
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil for protection
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano for joy
  • Salt and pepper to taste for balance

For the Béchamel Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter for comfort
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour for transformation
  • 4 cups milk for nurturing
  • Salt and nutmeg to taste for balance and purification

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef (or plant-based alternative) until browned. Add chopped onions and minced garlic and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Add basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, eggs, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • To make the béchamel sauce, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a paste. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and nutmeg.
  • Assemble the lasagna by spreading a layer of meat sauce at the bottom of the baking dish. Add a layer of cooked noodles, followed by a layer of cheese mixture and béchamel sauce. Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of béchamel sauce on top.
  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the lasagna is bubbling and golden.
