Ingredients

For the Yule Log Cake:

  • 4 large eggs for fertility and renewal
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar for sweetness and unity
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for unity
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour for grounding
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder for transformation
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder for rising energy
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt for balance
  • 1/2 cup milk for nurturing
  • Powdered sugar for snow-like dusting

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 8 ounces dark chocolate finely chopped (for transformation)
  • 1 cup heavy cream for comfort
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter for comfort

Instructions

Yule Log Cake:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and continue to beat.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture, alternating with the milk.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched.
  • While the cake is still warm, carefully roll it from the short end with the parchment paper inside. Allow it to cool completely.

Chocolate Ganache:

  • In a heatproof bowl, place the finely chopped dark chocolate.
  • In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer.
  • Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for a minute. Stir until smooth.
  • Add the unsalted butter and stir until fully incorporated.
  • Let the ganache cool to a spreadable consistency.

Assembling the Yule Log Cake:

  • Unroll the cooled cake and spread a layer of chocolate ganache.
  • Gently roll the cake back up without the parchment paper.
  • Cut a small diagonal slice from one end of the roll and attach it to the side of the log with some ganache, creating a branch.
  • Cover the entire log with the remaining chocolate ganache, creating a bark-like texture.
  • Use a fork to create lines resembling tree bark on the surface.
  • Dust the Yule Log Cake with powdered sugar for a snowy effect.
