Ingredients

  • 1 bottle 750ml red wine 750ml red wine (choose a robust variety)
  • 1/4 cup 60g honey or maple syrup
  • 1 orange sliced
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 3 star anise
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1-2 inches fresh ginger Sliced – Optional

Instructions

  • Prepare Ingredients: Slice the orange and lemon. If using ginger, slice it into thin pieces.
  • Combine Ingredients: In a large pot, pour the red wine. Add the honey or maple syrup, orange slices, lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, and grated nutmeg. Stir gently.
  • Heat Gently: Heat the mixture over low heat. Avoid boiling; aim for a gentle simmer.
  • Infuse Flavors: Let the wine simmer for at least 20-30 minutes to allow the spices to infuse their flavors.
  • Strain and Serve: After simmering, strain the mulled wine to remove the spices and citrus slices. Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
  • Serve Warm: Pour the aromatic mulled wine into mugs and serve warm. Garnish with a slice of orange or a cinnamon stick for a festive touch.
